Licensing TVnet
No formal standard for Ethernet-over-Coax exists today; but, Coaxsys is making TVnet available for licensing to set-top box (STB) manufacturers and set-top box chip companies in order to establish an open platform for Ethernet-over-Coax delivery. The result is that TVnet will become available in every STB, thereby enabling IPTV-over-Coax to every room in a home without the need for a separate, standalone TVnet adapter.
For operators, this means that they can deploy IPTV without adding an additional piece of equipment to the deployment. And, because TVnet will be deployed throughout a home, an IP network will exist to enable the transmission of other data over the coax. Furthermore, it means considerable cost savings to the operator: By enabling multiple equipment manufacturers to design TVnet into their products, Coaxsys is reducing the cost to distribute IPTV. No longer will the absence of an in-home IP network slow operators' deployments.
